A few weeks ago, we took time in class to watch a movie starring Denzel Washington titled The March. In this movie it talked about the March on Washington in 1963, and gave real life point of views from actual members of the march. While most people know about the speech by Martin Luther King that day, not many other people know about the details and other events that took place that day. It was in 1963 that over 200,000 people both black and white took to Washington to peaceably protest the injustices that were going on in this country.
Very few people have an understanding of this march and a lot of people don't give it as much credit as it deserves. People see it in movies such as Forrest Gump where it is satirized and not accurately depicted. However watching this movie for the first time really shed light on the event and gave me a new understanding of what it was all about. Its ability to bridge the gap between informative and edgy material was wonderful from giving the overview of what really happened during the time leading up to the march and the travesties that took place to its ability to portray the march in a such a great way and the lasting effects that the protest had on the country as a whole really made this film worth watching.
